The insanity of nominating Republican liberals.

Someone once described insanity as trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result

By that standard, the Republican establishment is insane.

What are they doing?

They are trying to impose Mitt Romney, a liberal, as the nominee of the Republican Party.

Let’s look back over the last forty years and see how well nominating liberals has done.

In 1972, Richard Nixon ran for reelection. He was a confirmed anti-communist and had taken a hard line on the Vietnam War. He crushed George McGovern.

By 1974, Nixon was gone due to Watergate and liberal Gerald Ford was the Republican President. While the after effects of Watergate did not help, under liberal Gerald Ford, the Democrats were able to get super majorities in Congress.

In 1976, liberal Gerald Ford, running for election, since he had come to the Presidency through succession, lost to Jimmy Carter.

In 1980, Ronald Reagan ran as a conservative. He beat Jimmy Carter. After four years of Reagan conservatism, Reagan crushed Walter Mondale.

In 1988, running as the conservative successor to Reagan, George H.W. Bush destroyed Michael Dukakis.

By 1992, we found out George H.W. Bush was a liberal Republican, not a conservative, and he lost to Bill Clinton.

In 1996, the “tax collector for the welfare state,” Bob Dole, a Republican liberal lost badly to Bill Clinton.

In 2000, George W. Bush ran as a conservative, with a qualification. He was a “compassionate” conservative. Bush barely won in 2000 and despite the national outpouring of emotion after 9/11, the moderate Bush barely beat John Kerry for reelection.

In 2008, John McCain, another Republican liberal was destroyed by Barack Obama.

For the last forty years, every time the GOP runs a liberal, we lose. We win when we run conservatives.

Now the same Republican establishment geniuses that have managed to screw up every election since Reagan want to do it again by imposing liberal Mitt Romney on us.

The question is, will the Party of Reagan go back to its roots, or will it continue the insanity and nominate another liberal.

The choice us up to us.

This is what Rush Limbaugh has been preaching since last summer…I’ve posted it numerous times on TPN. Romeny is a left-leaning moderate…but at Gingrich’s core is a progressive globalism (he was for those things before he was against them…). He changes his stance on the issues for political expediency…whatever gets him votes or attention. Selecting him as the GOP nominee is the epitome of insanity…again giving him power and expecting him to be a conservative leader…what’s that definition again?

Excellent article detailing 13 of the liberal positions taken by Gov. Mitt Romney in Massachusetts. Read it here.

Ann Coulter refered to us as the Peanut Gallery,we are the people who vote, campaign, donate money and get involved, perhaps it is time to quit buying any of Coulter!s books. Do not send The GOP one red cent, only to conservative candidates.

    • Gabor says:

well I vote too and I can not vote for Gingrich. I choose Romney. Why? Common sense. Win. Gingrich would/will loose. It is as simple as 2+2

      • Vinny says:

Romney will not win-he will campaign as a moderate, and lose. Even if he wins, he will only continue Obama policies, or replace them with their Bush 43 counterparts.

    Big thumbs up on that.

  5. Eldon Westenburg says:

Who and how put the GOP establishment in place? This is more of the Washington insiders trying to dictate what people think and how they vote. I would volunteer hours to the TPN to dismantle this non-represtentative (dictatorship) group and put in place leadership that reflects the will of the people. I sent a note to Newt’s website that his anti-establishment was the strongest position he has on his side.

  6. Barry L. Hart says:

My only question to you Judson is did you see the Jeffrey Lord piece on Elliot Abrams misleading facts about what Newt really said about Ronald Reagan? I think the Romney people like Rush has said were ‘whispering’ in Mr. Abrams ear about what Newt supposedly said of insulting President Reagan. Newt was taken completely out of context and was in fact Newt was praising Reagan’s policies. When this stuff came out, I said WTF,because I remember Newt as a strong Reagan conservative. The Republican Establishment MUST BE DEFEATED!!!!

  7. Gabor says:

well. This year is different. The problem is the “independents” are the force and they look at every little detail from record to LOOKS. Now see. Gingrich has a “slightly” flawed record which would be ok, but he is also “a bad looking guy” which loose the “female” votes. You have to be honest and see all factors here. Gingrich has no chance against Obama, but Romney DOES.

  8. Peter J Shepherd says:

Rick Perry was my first choice, but since he suspended his campaign, and endorsed Newt, I am currently supporting Newt.

I am 53 years young, and remember the Reagan years, as well as the Bush Sr., and Clinton years. To the best of my memory, Newt always was conservative. For those that may be a little younger, I would suggest that you pick up a copy of “Contract With America,” which helped elect a Republican Majority in 1996.

If Newt and Reagan didn’t get along, then why did Nancy Reagan, in 1995, say that her husband had passed the torch to Newt? Why would Michael Reagan, the son of the late president, endorse Newt, calling him a “”Reagan Conservative,” while at the same time calling Mitt Romney a “Rockefeller Republican?”

Having said all that, the REAL problem with our country, is that we have moved away from our spiritual foundations. We were built on the Word of God, and unless we return, we will not stop our downward slide, no matter who we elect.

  9. Doug Nicholson says:

I have said for several years now that the “conventional wisdom” that conservatives need to move to the center is WRONG! We need to move to the right in order to get a true conservative elected president. A recent poll indicated that 40% of voters self-identified as conservative. If we can get that 40% plus at least 10% of the independents to go along with a truly conservative candidate, we’ll have it made. Why can’t the “establishment” conservatives see this?
