The debate Romney really had.

Last night’s Republican Debate showed a number of things. First, Newt Gingrich did not have a great debate last night. Romney came in well prepared. But there were a lot of takeaways from the debate last night that Romney is hoping will go away.

What are they?

First, we were reminded of Romney’s love of big government and Romneycare. Rick Santorum has been getting much better at debating and he shined last night. He too was prepared and he unloaded on Romney regarding Romneycare. He pointed out that Romney’s signature liberal achievement doesn’t work. It also compels people to purchase insurance or pay a fine.

Instead of saying Romneycare was a bad idea and denouncing his own creation, Romney embraced it. When Romneycare is compared to Obamacare, Romney always says there are things we would do differently but never says what they are.

Santorum absolutely pinned Romney to the wall, leaving Romney to simply say, “it’s not worth getting angry over.”

Yes, liberal Mitt, it is worth getting angry over. But Romney dodges the issue. A few days ago, Romney advisor, former Minnesota Senator and RINO Norm Coleman came out stating Obamacare would never be repealed. Of course we know Romney will never do that.

Second, Romney lied. Romney claimed he never voted for a Democrat when he could vote for a Republican. In 1992, he voted for Paul Tsongas, the most liberal Democrat running for President that year. The same day he voted for Paul Tsongas, he could have voted for George HW Bush, who was in a primary fight with Pat Buchanan. Of course, Romney was able to avoid all together the issue that he had contributed money to Democrats prior to 1994.

Finally, Romney is the king of excuses. When he had bad investments, it was his trustee that did that. When he was confronted about an ad his campaign was running about Gingrich, he simply said he did not know about it. When Romney was asked in previous debate about withdrawing from Afghanistan, he said he would have to consult with the Generals. When asked last night about Newt Gingrich’s space program proposals, he said he would have to consult with experts.

While it is not reasonable to expect a President to be an expert in all areas, he should at least have some core beliefs. John Kennedy did not consult with experts when he set his goal of landing on the moon. He simply said, here is the goal. Once he set the goal, he let the experts figure the rest out. Reagan did not consult with the experts when he decided he was going to break the Soviet Union. In fact, most of the “experts” did not want him to do that. He set the goal and let others handle the details.

So what did the debate show last night? It showed Romney is still a big government liberal. It showed he lied and it showed he takes no responsibility for anything. Romney has no core values, except those he adopts depending on what office he’s running for at the time

If the media were not in the tank for Romney, we would be hearing more about this. Instead, expect more media attacks on Gingrich and Santorum.

And don’t be shocked this fall if we have a liberal Republican crushed by a liberal Democrat.

Remember 2008?

I never liked Romney to begin with, but was open to what he had to offer.

As the campaigning goes on, I see that Romney IS more & more like BO in the lies & deceit departments. We do not need another BO of a different color in the WH. The man is a cad!

My vote goes to Newt. We need a man with experience & fire to take on D.C. corruption in BOTH Houses. I like Santorum a lot but he hasn’t been vetted yet by the Libs, Rinos, & MSM. I don’t know if he can withstand their ugliness.

    • NWBill says:

I agree with Judy. I have continually tried to view Mitt Romney with an open heart and mind, studying as much as I could about the man, while watching him during the debates – and he impresses less and less the more that I do. I can’t for the life of me figure out why the Establishment wants him in the Oval Office; except as a potential puppet that they can bend and shape to their whims. Which explains their fear and disdain of Newt Gingrich; after what he did to them while as Speaker, I can well imagine they don’t want to go through that again; especially if they have to address him as “Mr. President” at the same time.

And that’s really the central difference between the two men; Mitt Romney … the right man for the elites and the Establishment – and Newt Gingrich, the right man for the people and the country.

“… leaving Romney to simply say, “it’s not worth getting angry over.” ”

As most of Romney’s answers last night this was just another pre-planned line. The problem was that it was supposed to be used against Newt. So that Romney and the establishment could say: “See I told you Newt is a raging quick-tempered embarrassment.”

The Freudian slip of that answer was that: it was Romney, not Santorum, that was getting angry. Romney was steaming while Santorum was bludgeoning him with his own Romneycare.

  3. Jim Delaney says:

Currently, with a 9-point lead, a solid ground game and tons of campaign cash going forward, it clearly appears that RINO Romney will be “our” candidate. Yes, Newt was not his usual well-prepared, sharp-as-a-tack self. I’m disappointed–very much so–but, after Florida, I’d better learn how to cheer loudly and convincingly for Romney. Even he, a determined presidential campaigner for 6 years now, is, hands down, a vast improvement over the neo-Marxist putative prez now “occupying” OUR White House.

    • Doug Nicholson says:

Well said, Jim, and I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment that “even” Romney would be a “vast improvement” over Odumbo.
      ABO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. Brenda says:

Last nights debate was a farce. I watch the debates to learn the candidates position, not to watch a free-for-all between the candidates. This was a rerun of the Romney/Perry dog fight and a total turn off. OK, Romney is rich and uses his Trustees for his investments, does that mean it never checks with them? Newt may have been a historian, consultant, or what ever, who care? Also, the last two commentators were anything but impartial and often rephrased questions for their own purposes. There were some good questions by the audience that went unanswered and I for one would have liked to have heard the answers. These debates need to get back on tract and stop being the Saturday night fight night.

    • Maureen Taylor says:

I absolutely agree with the premise that if Mitt for brains does not review his investments from time to time, to know that he was invested in Fannie and Freddie, what will he do with our money? What I find ironic is that Romney’s investment might have paid for Newt consultation fees. LOL

  5. Rick Santorum made it very clear last night that Romneycare IS Obamacare.

  6. Katie Kalpin says:

I am sorry for this, but the way I saw it Romney stepped on his own Wee wee. He did present that he was a big government canidate, he showed that he is a huge Jerk. Newt lastnight was showing a unity with all the Canidates when he yelled at Wolfy there, and told him what I talk about in a interview is different and he was protecting all up there, the others were nodding and smiling, Romney with that painted on grin there, said wouldn’t it be nice if someone made an accusation and then was willing to be challanged on them. Newts look was a “well OK if that’s what you want.” Showed that Romney has NO unity in him. If that’s how he is going to be in the Debates, is he going to be that way in the house? I think that yes he will be. It’s just another Bohner. I really hope that people see this. I hope that they were turned off by his attacks on Newt and the others. He was just down right nasty. And those that were in the audiance were paid by Romeny to be there. Sorry but he just does not have that kind of support. I have not yet met a Romney fan out here in PA. So I don’t think that Florida would have that. Plus he insulted the NASA employees. So he does not have Florida. Newt was tired, you could see it in his face!

  7. Joseph Richichi says:

This debate will have an effect on Tuesday, the question is in what way. Santorum had a great night, and taking it to Romney was great. Question is, does that boost Santorum’s numbers? Or bring Romney’s down? If it boost Santorum’s it means, Newt’s numbers come down. and Romney wins.
If people are turned off by attacks, Romney’s support should fall.
But lets face it, the Establishment has united to defeat Gingrich. And should Florida fall to Mitt Romney, expect him to be our nominee. It’s that simple.
Santorum, I fear if he were to gain traction in Florida, all it does is help Mitt.

However I’m conceding that Mitt will become our Nominee. Only God himself can save Newt now, for I think too much mud is being thrown at him. And since no one is coming to in defense of Newt on a National Stage, sure Limbaugh and Levin defended Newt, but in terms of Endorsements/supports, it looks like Newt is dead in the water.

  8. Gary says:

Yes Every liberal news media out there including Fox News will be talking about how well Romney did last night, including Santorum. And how Gingrich did not do that well. But if I lived in Florida and had watched the debate and was for Romney I wouldn’t be today. Especially after Santorum called him out on Romney Care. And how he was totally committed to not wanting to start up the space program again. And make no mistake about it Romney, he does not want to get NASA up and running again. It was like him being asked to release his taxes for the previous years. He said I will think about it when he was hoping that he wasn’t going to have to. And probably wouldn’t have done it if not for Newt putting pressure on him to do so. So the NASA program answer came out the same way with a twist I will consult someone else. GEE ROMNEY, If you didn’t have someone else having to instruct you as to what will be your next move what would you do next. Could you even breath without someone telling you to do so. Is it me or does Romney sound like someone else we already have the displeasure of knowing. OBAMA!!!!!! Another puppet with someone else pulling the strings. If I were Gingrich I would use that in the next debate. Notice they said Romney got a new debating teacher. Amazing how much Romney can’t do anything own his own. If Romney gets the nomination we are in serious trouble folks. Please keep praying that the people of Florida see what we see. I would love to stick Florida in Fox News and the rest of the media’s face and have Newt win Florida.

  9. Judy Moore says:

Media manipulated cat fights are a waste of time. So Romney has a new debate coach. That may have taught him to attack better, it didn’t change his stripes. Let’s hear what each one would do to fix the problems without the moderator trying to stir the pot.

  10. Mike NQR says:

I watched just enough of the debate to see it was a rerun of all the others, once again moderated by a liberal who skewed the questions. I didn’t watch long enough for the question(s) about NASA, or to notice that Newt looked tired, or that Santorum scored points.

Newt has my Florida vote. There are two must-win regions in order to take Florida. One is Miami-Dade and the other is the I-4 corridor, running from Tampa northeast to Daytona Beach, just north of Cape Kennedy. (Sorry, I’m not politically correct enough to follow the name change back to Canaveral.) I’m in the I-4 corridor.

  11. Milissa says:

I watched just enough of the debate to wonder why the RNC allows the most liberal of the libs to “moderate” these things? It was the same night of Romney’s painted on smile of irritation, trying to look presidential and hold on until the end. I am for Speaker Gingrich. He has concrete ideas, and a proven record of getting things done. I don’t care about his peccadilloes, the msm spent years telling me that they don’t matter when Clinton was the cad in question. I won’t watch any more debates until the rnc gets beyond its rectal glaucoma, and has it moderated by someone who hasn’t taken a blood oath to keep b.o. on Pennsylvania Avenue.

  12. John Gaver says:

Well, like it or not, although Romney took a hit or two, he came out of that debate smelling like a rose, compared to the rest.

By contrast, Newt came in dead last. Even the kooky Libertarian did better, challenging the rest of the candidates to a 25 mile bike ride in the Texas heat and suggesting that we send some politicians to the moon. Newt kept having brain freezes, all night. I’ve never seen him so totally out of it. Maybe his Alzheimer’s is kicking in.

The clear number two last night, was Sanorum. For once, he actually didn’t put viewers to sleep. However, if that was his best, then it’s pretty clear that he’s not the guy we want debating Obama. But then, he has improved dramatically. He could improve some more.

OTOH, it’s Romney’s nomination to lose and he made it clear last night that he’s not about to make one of those losing mistakes. If he wins Florida, the race is over. The schedule will see to that. But even if he loses Florida, the schedule favors him so much that he will still be seen as the front-runner and it will still be his nomination to lose.

  13. I will not vote for Romney, if he is the Republican nominee for president. I have listened to Romney’s description as Obama-lite and frankly unless we have true-blue conservatives like Newt and Rick Santorum, Americans will be fleeced by the Mitt-ster just as we are being over-run by Obama. I just looked at the mini-video “Blood Money” where one of Romney’s companies, Damon Corporation, fleeced Medicare and the U.S. government out of millions, then the same month and year that Bain Capital was caught with its hand in the federal cookie jar, they sold the company to Corning, who then had to pay the highest fine ever to the federal government; guess what? They also had to let thousands of employees go. Romney stinks with corruption.

  15. Marcie Ellis says:

You guys have got to be kidding. Mitt Romney is a genuine upright, outstanding American Patriot. He has selflessly helped others to the tune of millions, including saving the olympics, helping to find the daughter of one of his employees who would have died had he not acted promptly and foot the bill to charities which help people all around the world. I think the problem is that others are envious of him, his family and all their successes, which boggles my mind. I see him as the one who can solve our problems. He is a Patriot. He is a true Statesman. He wants to save America. He wants America to be great again. He sees what I see – America falling into the abyss. He can and will save our nation. He will fight for our liberties. I believe in Mitt.

Romney is a liberal. He governed as a liberal. In the 90′s he supported liberal Democrats. In 2002 he announced he was a progressive. If you believe Romney is a conservative, you picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.
