Could a “President Romney” be worse than Barack Obama?

Here is a question no one is asking and we all should be asking. If Mitt Romney wins the Republican nomination and somehow managed to get elected, could he be worse than Barack Obama?

As absolutely horrible as Obama is, there is a real possibility a Romney administration could be worse.

First, let’s be blunt about this. Obama is an anti-American Marxist. He does not love America. He does not want America to be a great country. He wants to do everything possible to tear America down so that the country is eventually rebuilt as a socialist nation.

Given those facts, how could Romney possibly be worse?

It is a fair question.

First, while Romney is not an anti-American Marxist like Obama is, he is about as far to the left.

Romney supporters go nuts when I say this but it is the truth. Prior to 1994, he was a Democrat who supported liberal Democrats. He switched parties to run against Ted Kennedy in 1994 and ran to the left of Kennedy on most issues. In 2002, there is a video of him saying he is a progressive. From 2003 to 2007, he was the most liberal Republican Governor in the nation. He signed his most liberal signature programs, such as Romneycare and Cap and Trade, after he had announced he was not running for reelection as governor. This is not campaign hyperbole but it is his record.

Romney ran in 2008 as a moderate, giving as much lip service to conservatism as John McCain did. It was only after the 2010 Tea Party victories did he start trying to mislead the voters and claim he was actually a conservative.

So what would happen if Mitt Romney became President?

We would lose. The conservative movement would be over.

When someone wins the Presidency, among other things, they control the Party. The close political allies of the President take the reins of the Party. What would that do for the Republican Party?

Any pretense that the Republican Party, at least at the national level, is a conservative party would be gone. The conservative movement would have no national political base and party unless we launched a new party.

As a practical matter, a Romney Presidency would break the back of the conservative movement. While some in the conservative movement would buck the Romney administration, many would simply go along. After all, he is a Republican, not a Democrat.

What would a President Romney do?

For one thing, he would not repeal Obamacare. One of his senior advisors, former Minnesota Senator Norm Coleman said as much in an interview yesterday that a Republican President, presumably Romney, would not repeal Obamacare.

Romney will realize the deficits must be curbed. Unfortunately his cure will be as bad as the disease. Instead of eliminating the deficit through budget cuts, Romney will make some minor budget cuts, but he will raise taxes. He has already hinted at his progressive views by talking about cutting taxes for those below $200,000 in income. His proposals for tax cuts, which will never happen regardless, are tepid at best.

What would a Romney Presidency mean? It would mean a conservative agenda is not advanced. It would mean we would be stuck with Obamacare and it could never be repealed. We would have a stagnant economy. We would have new taxes, which would hammer the economy.

More importantly, he would break the conservative opposition, with some wanting to support the Republican in the White House and others still opposing him.

In short, a Romney Presidency would be a replay of not Reagan, but of Bush 41.

And we all know how that story ended.

I have been saying for months if Romney is the candidate I simply cannot vote for him and I will spend my time and money working for a conservative majority in the house and senate.. I have been told that is a vote for obama. Maybe it is, but obama is a known entity and with a conservative house and senate he can be controlled. If Romney is President too many fence sitting RINOs will vote moderate and help continue our slide into marxism.

    • Katzi44 says:

Are you kidding???? Obama CAN’T be controlled. Look how he is going around Congress now and appointing Czars. If Romney is the nominee, we HAVE to vote for him AND also get more Conservative congress people voted in to pull him to the Right! We have a better chance of pulling him to the right than controlling Obama.

    • Laura Lloyd says:

If Romney is the nominee, how about a HUGE write-in campaign for Newt? Then, in the general election, at least we won’t have democrat votes helping Romney!

  2. Joseph Richichi says:

    He would be a disaster.
The Democrats have already accepted that this election would mean big trouble for them. I really believe they expect Obama to lose. Granted they’ll try to get him re-elected, but I think they are already looking ahead to the 2014 Mid-Term Elections.

They are looking at who in the Republican Party could
    1) Spark new calls of a third party
    2) Perfect Candidate for Class Warfare
    3) Suppress the Enthusiasm of the Base
    4) Willing to Compromise “Sell out”

Romney is their guy. If Romney wins and governs like he always has been, a RINO, then you’ll see 1 a new Conservative party form, or 2 the conservatives will give up.
The Republican base would be so demoralized that the Democrats will sweep into power in 2014 in historic margines, and Romney will be defeated in 2016. Of course that’s if he runs again, if his poll numbers are down in 16, he may choose not to run.

  3. Dene says:

No, no one is worse than owebama. You can read my comments on TPN. I don’t like Mittflop at all, but being a shill for Gingrich is worse.

I suspect that many “Conservatives” will be elected and control the House/Senate,
and with Romney as president supporting liberal programs,
we could end up with another “deadlocked” government between Congress and President.

  6. 11:11-Jan 26-12- The above–to me– is a well thought out possibility. Romney has no cause to shake up the current situation. It would not profit him one whit to do so.
If he wins the nomination, Paul will turn to a third party run. Taking Trump at his word he may insert a fourth party run. There are not enough sides on a pair of dice to see where that would lead us.
The above writer would see that the House and Senate would be conserative. That’s applaudable, but we see now how Congress is being made ineffictive by governing with Czars and regulatory orders.
No, it is either Newt or the highway. Anything less will spell our doom. I raise red flags, you say. I would agree with that. But we simply have ran out of time. We’ve kicked the can down the road too many times. We’re now at the edge of a cliff. One more kick of the can and we go, the nation goes, down to that muddy river far below.
Peter Sowatskey–yes, I’m an author–but authors can think also.

    • Arizonaguy says:

The House has the power to not fund the czars which could eliminate them.
Boehner doesn’t have the courage to even mention that, but a conservative house could stop it immediately.

  7. Pat says:

Romney would just be an extension of scumbama! If he is the GOP’s nominee than I will in fact vote for a 3rd party. I can not and will not vote for a moderate that doesn’t have this countries best interests at heart and in mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Dene says:

Although some WRONGLY advance the CANARD that Santorum is “unelectable”, he would be an excellent choice to oppose owebama. He has virtually no baggage. If he were to team up with Alan West, it would be a ticket that would excite real conservatives. Owebama will spend a billion showing the negatives (plus additional lies) of his opponent. Santorum has the fewest. Gnewt and Mittflop are tied for records in baggage. As I said before Iowa, the only thing that makes Santorum “unelectable” is self-appointed “experts” saying he is. Oh and you need to go to Drudge to see the MASS of links slamming Gnewt as anti-Reagan and NOT conservative – in his own words. If he can’t take this kind of heat and truth, he will never survive a liebama onslaught!

  9. Kristin says:

Whats worse? How about we continue to have Barry Soetero illegally occupying our White House, continuing to appoint thieves from Fanny and Freddie to high positions, giving away nuclear secrets to the Russians, selling out our allies like Poland, Great Britain and Israel? How about not enforcing laws like DOMA, suing Arizona for trying to stem illegal immigration, having horrible Atty Gen in charge who won’t prosecute voter fraud and covers up Fast and Furious? Kills Keystone pipeline, bans offshore drilling, kills coal, is cozy with union thugs, and divides the nation on race? SHALL I CONTINUE? I’m no supporter of Romney but he isnot like this!

  10. Laura K says:

I don’t believe Romney would be worse than Obama. If by chance he changes the Republican Party into something we’re not happy with then that will be the time to start a new party. It’s a chance I’m willing to take if Romney’s the nominee. I support Gingrich but many say he also can’t win. If Pelosi has something up her sleeve then maybe Gingrich will be hurt by this if he becomes the nominee. There are too many “ifs” and unknowns. The only “known” fact is if we get a conservative majority congress, we’ll be in much better shape regardless of who sits on the “thrown”. I will support anyone against Obama.

  11. Dene says:

We can’t oppose Marxist Barry because he’s half black and we get called racist for opposing insane Cloward-Piven policies. If ANY of the current Republican candidates get elected, we will have NO such restriction. We will have more Tea Party candidates elected in both the House and the Senate. We will have a stronger Tea Party! And we will be able to march on Washington if ANY of our candidates get elected and try to implement liberal policies. If you cry and pout and take your ball and go home because YOUR chosen hero doesn’t get nominated, and Barry gets re-elected, you’ll disappear under the NDAA if you protest or march in 2013. Think about it. NO ONE IS WORSE THAN MAOBAMA! It’s ridiculous to even advance a premise to contrary.

  12. Tom Bruno says:

    Judson,
I have read your posts, articles and replies with interest. You are a smart, passionate man and I know we would be better with more like you. The only thing is, I know that you do not know everything. No one but God does.
Who is Mitt? I’m not sure. He makes a good appearance and has a lot of money. He is a fairly good communicator. Can he win? I’m even less sure about that.
That said, I have a lot more confidence that we know who Newt is. He is intellectually proficient and knows how to use it. He has a very practiced political sense that has failed him and us, many times. I will not list the long list, beginning as far back as 1994 when, on the very night he had perhaps his greatest victory in taking the House, Newt stuck his foot in his mouth on national TV and swallowed it right up to his knee! That, right there was the end of Newt. Clinton cleaned his clock. Then Clinton, knowing he could work with Newt and keep his Presidency, tacked hard to the middle, worked with Newt and lasted 8, not 4 years.
Newt has the highest unfavorables of any non-incumbant since Hillary. Newt yesterday alienated Rubio and many Hispanics. Newt has done little for seniors and less for youth. His intellectual haughtiness (“I will be the nominee”) will always defeat Newt. He cannot control himself and his pride.
Mitt may be all you say he is. I grant you that. Nevertheless he may be the only one who can beat Obama. I believe Obama will lose if we do not send a Quixotic candidate out to tilt windmills. Newt is our Man of LaMancha, I’m afraid.
We need to let Obama beat himself. He has spent 3+ years doing just that. We must not rescue Obama from himself with Newt, as we rescued Clinton from himself in1994.

    • Avatar of Judson Judson says:

And we are going to do better by sending a Republican liberal to Washington?

      • Tammy M. says:

My concern is Romney’s record in Mass., it is abysmal. He appointed liberal judges. Our next President will be appointing a minimum of two SCOTUS justices. While Romney might be a tad better for the immediate future, justices have a life time appointment. I think I prefer to have Obama and a conservative house and senate that will reign him as much as possible. If we have a GOP Senate and Romney, they will just okay his picks, and I don’t trust him to choose well.

I am with Newt. And this isn’t about sour grapes, it is putting the future of my country as my priority. And yes, I know there will be those that adamantly disagree with me, but for the immediate future, we still our entitled to our own viewpoint and our own vote!

  13. Nevadastu says:

Judson, what is this blog going to look like if Romney ends up winning the nomination? Are you going to urge your readers not to vote? The prime directive of every conservative voter should be to get Obama and his cabal of Communist Czars out of our White House. The subprime directive is to take over the Senate with Tea Party affilliated Republicans. We can survive a Romney presidency, but we can’t survive 4 more years of Obama. I am supporting Newt in the primary, but if Romney wins, I’ll support him.

  14. Gerald Chong says:

Newt’s done in Florida. Too much baggage. Too erratic. Too egotistical. In a general election, are you saying you would vote for Obama over Mitt? Suicidal.

  15. Edie Boudreau says:

For those politicians who may need information about just how destructive your compatriots (& maybe you) have been to our country, this message is for you.

I became a Constitutional Conservative activist after realizing that many politicians who I thought were Republicans had become almost as progressive as Dems. I worked for a Conservative during the 2010 election, and will be working again for a Conservative during the coming 2012 election. In the meantime, as a working writer in all the mediums for >30 yrs, I am reaching out to the people who are demanding that our country be saved from the corruption in our current administration. They need to STAND UP themselves & take action instead of just talking and whining. They need to demonstrate their determination to save us.

We ALL need to communicate with our representatives & write letters to the media about Bills or actions that we disagree with. We need to gather with like-minded voters & organize Marches & Demonstrations just as Soros and the unions did with the Occupiers. We need to demand that our Congressmen develop some backbone and take action against the unconstitutional Bills that Obama and his cohorts are passing and hold them to account by going to the Courts to start RECALLS & IMPEACHMENTS. We can’t afford to wait until November 2012!!

The polls show in what low esteem the voters hold Congress and Obama in, so they need to remember that they work for WE THE PEOPLE. Corruption, fraudulent elections, excess spending and lending to terrorist countries, passing of Bills or assignments of radicals while illegally bypassing Congress, not protecting our country as they vowed to do when taking office…all those actions will cause them to be FIRED!

The politicians have no idea how angry the average working voters are about our taxes being used to take care of illegals, the Federal govt. not protecting our borders, Obama stopping our use of our own energy resources, and the govt. letting people go on welfare instead of making it “minimum-wage Workfare.” In the meantime, they must stop calling “Social Security” and “Medicare” entitlements, when the workers & their employers paid that money into a “lockbox” that was supposed to protect it from the politicians stealing it & putting it into the General Fund so they could spend it on Pork & put it in their own pockets.

The people know that the Government politicians were the guilty majority, along with banks, mortgage companies, and real estate officials, in causing our Housing Bubble and then its downfall by giving houses to people who couldn’t pay for them. They’ve seen Obama throw most of the Stimulus and Tarp money away by using it for unapproved causes and his agenda. They’ve caused businesses to take their companies to other countries because of their regulating & taxing them to death–thus taking away all the jobs and causing the massive unemployment. They’ve let the unions run rampant, especially in the public (govt.) arena…thus causing States to go broke and pensions to go unpaid.

You should all be aware that there are plenty of websites that are keeping track of every vote and action by politicians during the past 10 years. They will PAY THE PRICE, even if we have to FIRE 90 percent of our politicians. I intend to copy this document and request that every Conservative with a SPINE make at least 50 copies to give away at Conservative meetings, and go to at leave five web sites and install it to tell the voters that it is time to get busy. We can’t wait for “someone?” to organize our protests any longer.

The reason Romney is “The choice” of everyone except constitutional conservatives is because they all know that for Obama to beat Romney, all they have to play over and over again is the Thank You to Romney for the Obamacare that we now have and Obama will be re-elected.
If by chance Romney would beat Obama, no problem. Obamacare will remain with us.
This is a HUGE issue, not to be overlooked. This is what it looks like to me:
No Ron Paul BECAUSE of his philosophy on foreign affairs.
No Romney BECAUSE of his introduction and support of Obamacare.
I wish that the Newt Campaign would capitalize on this issue. It would hit Romney and his supporters where it counts! Right out of the race.

    • John Gaver says:

Romney beats Obama on ObamaCare very easily. If Obama is stupid enough to point out that ObamaCare was modeled after RomneyCare, Romney just adopts a fatherly attitude and asks, “So why didn’t you come to me and ask for my help? I would have been more than glad to tell you what mistakes we made in the Massachusetts healthcare bill and I could have told you that individual mandates wouldn’t work nationally. But,” shaking his head in that fatherly fashion, “you didn’t even ask for my help.” That’s an image of Romney as the sage and Obama as the student that screwed up, is an image that Obama has to avoid at all costs.

  17. Dene says:

Yes! Romney is not my choice, but at least we and conservatives in Congress can rein him in. Owebama ignores The Constitution, Congress, Governors and, most importantly, WE, The People. There is no one worse than owebama.

  18. John Gaver says:

Judson, what you’re describing is exactly what happened with Dubyuh. The GOP would not be in the dire position that we find ourselves in today, if it were not for Dubyuh, so damaging the Republican Party and painting us as the party of BIG Government and police state tactics.

Nothing in Romney’s past indicates that he supports such BIG Government, police state tactics.

OTOH, Newt’s background is full of just such votes and public pronouncements.

Like Dubyuh, who on several occasions, ignored or stonewalled the Supreme Court, Newt has stated that he would ignore a Supreme Court ruling, if he thought it necessary.

Like Dubyuh, Newt supports (voted for) NAFTA.

Like Dubyuh, Newt supports AMNESTY for Illegal Aliens.

Like Dubyuh, Newt supported mandatory carbon caps. (Note that even Dubyuh reversed himself on that, shortly after getting elected, but Newt didn’t.)

But going beyond that, Newt co-sponsored the “Fairness Doctrine” (Hush Rush). In 1991, he voted for an amendment to the federal crime bill, to establish a National Police Corps. He vocally supported the Lautenburg Gun Ban, said that if he were in office, he would have voted for the $700B TARP bailout, and suggested that flex-fuel vehicles be MANDATED for Americans. And unlike Romney who has repeatedly stated that individual mandates would never work nationally, Newt has a long history of supporting individual mandates, going all the way back to HillaryCare and he supported individual mandates in ObamaCare, saying, “All of us have a responsibility to help pay for health care.”

Certainly, Romney is bad. But Newt is far worse.

Dubyuh almost destroyed the GOP and he wasn’t all that smart. Imagine the damage to the GOP that Dubyuh would have done, had he been smart… You just imagined Newt…

  19. Julie says:

I felt the same way about Romney up until last night when I read Ann Coulter’s column. She is a very good reporter, she digs into records and finds the truth on each candidate.
    http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=49068
We need to get the goods on these people.

  20. Shavager says:

I disagree with your premise, there are Tea Party groups nationwide working to take over local precincts, running alternative candidates intent on replacing Establishment RINO’s who are liberal in ideology and practice. More conservatives taking positions in Congress replacing elected officials who have been there too long will put pressure on any GOP president to work with Congress, you’re not likely to see Romney operate with executive order like Owebumbler has. Romney or any other president can be reigned in by Congress and the people unless it’s a cabal like Owebumbler and his stooges Reid and Pelosi. This will be a long process folks, can’t bury your head anymore, get involved or get taken over by a socialist disease that’s a full blown plague now.

  21. Marcie Ellis says:

This makes me furious. How in the world do you think this is going to play out when Mitt Romney becomes our candidate. You should be ashamed of yourself for doing this. We need to be united in our front against Obama. Whose side are you all on? Do you want the Left to win? Sounds like it. As a matter of fact, it sounds like the Left has taken over your little pea brains. This isn’t the Tea Party I was a part of. Who highjacked the Tea Party I was part of three years ago? What do you think the Left does all day? They gather information from goons like you to use as fodder in the general election. You sound like bunch of sissies who pout when they don’t get their way. Well, you are going to be sorry when we lose because you didn’t have enough sense to know when to shut up. This nation can’t take another 4 years of what BHO has given us. We are doomed if that happens. So you better wipe your nose and stop crying and stand up and fight for this country. Mitt wants to fight for this country. Fight with him. Save us from this dictator or we will ALL be sorry.
